Are You Mentoring Unaware?

I was thinking about my mentors this morning. I have several people who speak into my life on a regular basis (whether I want them to are not). There are those who call, check on me, and ask me engaging questions. Then there are those that I have asked to hold me accountable. I value there input greatly.

As I look back over my life I realize that I have had mentors who did not even realize they were mentoring me. I was learning, gleaning from, and endeavoring to be like them. Today, I have mentors who do not even know I exist. People like Michael Hyatt (blogger) & Craig Groeschel (LifeChurch.TV) who mentor me through their; books, blogs, videos and tweets. I learn from their passion, have similar vision, but most of all respect who they are as men.

Who are you purposefully mentoring? Who is watching you? Is your life worth following? Can you say follow me as I follow Christ?

Great post, makes you think. I have been mentored by many individuals who never knew the impact they had on my life. I hope others can say the same about me someday.

I am sure you are mentoring many unaware, but something can also be said for being purposeful. Is there someone you can approach about mentoring one on one?

Thanks for commenting!

I'm a weird point in my life when no one is really speaking into it directly. I have mentors who I don't know personally like Pastor Steven Furtick and Pastor Craig Groschel, but I do wish I had someone I could call on when I need advice or just someone to speak some life into my faith walk, my family and just current situations.

I kind of feel like a hypocrite writing that a bit, because I know God speaks life into all of us through the Bible. But I do wish I had someone I could go to, a mentor I could call on sometimes. I guess that comes from with moving to a place where you know no one. I think I'm also just in the middle of a season where a lot of life is getting sucked out of me that it leaves me feeling a little empty.

Ivy,
Don't let moving around be a barrier to or an excuse from being mentored. Who spoke into your life before. Could you video chat once a week. Cell phones and the computer have destroyed the "long distance" excuses of land lines and snail mail.

There is someone who can mentor you and chances are you already know them. Thanks for sharing so openly and honestly. Please know that I will be praying for you during this season of life :)

Unfortunately the person who used to speak life into me, not in my ministry but my life as a whole, just passed away.

Thanks for all of your prayers. Right now I'd be good with just feeling God's presence in my life. I know it's there, I just can't feel it like I used to.
